In May, the Best Buy Teen Tech Center celebrated our graduating seniors and all of their accomplishments with a Graduation Party. However, the celebration did not happen without hard work! Earlier in the year, we hosted a scholarship workshop with a representative from the United Negro College Fund and introduced our senior clubhouse members to the UNCF-Best Buy Foundation Scholars Program. This multi-year partnership program offers a scholarship to minority, low-income high school seniors with high academic and leadership promise and who are planning to enroll in undergraduate degree programs. It covers up to $10,000 per academic year and $40,000 for up to 4 academic years. In our first year presenting this opportunity, we had one scholar, but in 2025, we had four! Our seniors are currently attending Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University, and Rutgers University.
Teens also attended monthly career and job training workshops hosted by volunteers from our partners at Best Buy and Microsoft, as well as local non-profit youth-serving organizations. At the end of these workshops, eligible teens were presented the opportunity to work as interns at local Best Buy and Microsoft retail locations in the summer months. Teens were formally introduced to, interviewed by, and selected by Best Buy retail general managers. As a result, 12 of our teens- both juniors and seniors- were selected as interns.

Finally, the graduation party served as the perfect kick-off for the Summer and send-off for our graduating senior clubhouse members! Staff at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center and volunteers from our partners at Best Buy and Microsoft planned, decorated, and hosted- and even provided free graduation portrait photo shoots. Our scholarship winners and Best Buy interns were presented, celebrated, and given the floor to speak about their experiences at the Teen Tech Center and offer advice to incoming seniors. We also announced the 2025 Class President, a promising senior, Natan Kifle. At the end, everyone enjoyed food and conversation and offered congratulations, best wishes, and farewells to our 2025 graduating class. As the spring draws nearer, the 2026 graduating class should be on their toes about what we have in store for them!
