Book Review: Down Among the Sticks and Bones, by Seanan McGuire
By Elizabeth Puckett
Down Among the Sticks and Bones is the second in the 'Wayward Children' series. The series focuses on the stories of children who have come back from their fantasy world.
Down among the sticks and bones are a story of two girls, Jack and Jill. Jack and Jill's fantasy world, The Moors, make hammer horror films or universal monster movies seem bright and cheerful.
Jack and Jill have a cold home life. Their father is raising Jill to be the boy he did not get. Their mother is raising Jack to be the perfect doll.
Jack and Jill find a magical trunk one day and climb inside to journey to The Moors, a Gothic horror fantasy realm run by a Vampire lord in his castle and a Mad Scientist in his tower. One Twin is drawn to the Vampire Lord, the other to the Mad Scientist, and their sibling rivalry could destroy the Moors.
'The Wayward Children' series consist of six-plus stand-alone novels. Each book will explore unique fantasy worlds: goblin markets, mermaid worlds, and realms made totally of sugar.
