Each April, National Library Week shines a spotlight on the essential role libraries play in strengthening communities, inspiring lifelong learning, and connecting people with opportunity. Established in 1958 and sponsored by the American Library Association, this national celebration honors the vital contributions of libraries and library workers across the country.
In 2026, National Library Week will be celebrated April 19–25, bringing communities together to recognize the impact of libraries nationwide.
At Fulton County Library System, we are proud to join libraries nationwide in recognizing this special week and celebrating the many ways libraries empower residents every day.

This year’s theme, “Find Your Joy!”, invites people of all backgrounds to explore and discover what sparks joy for them at the library. Whether it’s diving into a new book, attending a creative program, learning a new skill, or simply finding a welcoming space to connect, libraries offer something meaningful for everyone.
This year’s celebration is led by Honorary Chair Mychal Threets, a librarian and literacy advocate known for sharing the joy of libraries with audiences across the country. His message encourages everyone, whether lifelong readers or first-time visitors, to discover not only the joy of libraries but also the confidence to explore their own stories and creativity.
Throughout the week, special days of recognition highlight the people, advocacy, and outreach that make libraries extraordinary:
- Right to Read Day (Monday) – A day to celebrate the freedom to read and access information. You can print these coloring and activity pages , opens a new windowto express your love of the library, or even create your own Drawn to Freedom postcard , opens a new windowto send to the library staff and others to express your support.
- National Library Workers Day (Tuesday) – Honoring the dedicated staff who make library services possible. To show appreciation for library workers and the work they do throughout the year, library users are invited to Submit at Star by providing a testimonial about a favorite library employee at ala-apa.org/nlwd. National Library Week is a perfect time to explore your local branch, discover new programs, or reconnect with your favorite librarian.
We also celebrate the patrons who make our libraries thrive, you! Your curiosity, creativity, and love of learning are what keep our library system vibrant and strong.
