Last week, as part of our homeschool program, the kids learned about Python and drones led by Lucas Trujillo, an instructor from Sim2Real Academy. While most participants were familiar with Scratch, a beginner-friendly coding website, this was their first exposure to Python.

To create a safe flight zone for the demonstration, the instructor used chairs as boundaries so the participants could not cross. He provided a poster with sample codes the kids could select from them. On whiteboards, the participants wrote out the directions they wanted the drone to follow. After everyone wrote their code, Lucas typed it into Python. Taking turns, everyone watched their code bring the drone to life. Some challenged themselves to make the drone fly a circle, while others aimed to reach as close to the ceiling as possible.
After the demonstration, the instructor invited questions from the group and let the children pass around the drone and its equipment for a closer look. The drone's compact size surprised many. Inspired by this experience, several kids expressed a newfound interest in robotics and learning Python.
