Milton Library hosts CRAFTer Dark, a monthly program geared toward adults. The goal is to provide programs that make art/crafts accessible to all skill levels in such a way that each participant produces a stunning piece, even with no prior experience.
This month’s program offered a wonderful blend of relaxation, creativity, and hands-on design as participants created their own paint chip tile mosaics.
Each attendee began with a simple square ceramic tile as the base. From there, the fun really started: hundreds of colorful paint chip cards were cut into small pieces, giving everyone a vibrant palette to work with. Using these tiny paper “tiles,” participants arranged and adhered their pieces to form their mosaics.
Some creators embraced a loose, abstract approach—mixing colors, shapes, and textures into spontaneous, eye-catching patterns. Others took a more intentional route, using the paint chips to craft recognizable images like landscapes, florals, geometric motifs, or symbolic designs. It was inspiring to see how many directions the same materials could take.
Once the final pieces were glued into place, each artist got to choose a finishing touch: matte, satin, or glossy enamel spray. The sealant not only protected the artwork but also gave each mosaic its own personality—subtle, soft, or brilliantly shiny.
The finished tiles were stunning, and the evening was full of conversation, creativity, and that satisfying feeling of making something beautiful from everyday materials. We’re already looking forward to our next adult crafting session!
