January’s CRAFTernoon welcomed tweens and teens for a fun mixed-media art project inspired by winter weather. Participants created a playful scene of a snowman losing his hat in the blowing wind, experimenting with texture, movement, and simple materials to bring their ideas to life.

Artists began by painting their canvases blue, setting a chilly winter backdrop. Broad, angled brushstrokes of white paint swept across the canvas to create the impression of snow whipping through the air. For the snowman, bubble wrap painted white was stamped onto the canvas, adding texture and a fun, unexpected technique. Once the paint dried, eyes, noses, and hats cut from cardstock were added, while black marker was used for arms and fine details.

The result was a collection of expressive, wintry scenes—each one unique, full of motion, and bursting with personality. January’s CRAFTernoon was a great opportunity for tweens and teens to explore mixed-media art while embracing the blustery beauty of the season.
