Director’s Blog – July 2026

Hello, hello, hello! I hope you are having a great summer. Making it to the beach was a highlight for me this year. Hopefully, your leisure time has been wonderful.

So, what are you reading? I hope you find time to read, or will do so, as soon as possible. It may be a treat to read a lot during these hot days. Perhaps rainy days give you time to relax with a good book. Please think about putting it on your to-do list!

One thing of note, and of which you may be aware, is that we’ve had challenges with bringing new physical books to you due to the change in our vendor. The previous vendor closed shop, and we, along with numerous library systems across the nation, bemoan that fact. Look for bestsellers and replacement copies to start arriving any day now.

However, that fact has not put a damper on your enthusiasm for this favorite time of the year in the library world. We are entering the homestretch of the 2026 Summer Reading Program. It is for all ages, so check in at your favorite library and get in on the action. It wraps up on August 1st. Thank you for setting reading and program attendance records.

Also, one additional highlight not to be missed is the upcoming One Book, One Read Event. It will be held at the Central Library on Saturday, September 19th, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The title is The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak.

Let’s put reading at the top of our lists! Reading makes for great conversation!
