Are you a Libby/Overdrive user? If so, we have some important news to share with you regarding holds and suspensions.
Previously in the Libby app and on the Overdrive website, patrons would have to manually select an end date for a hold suspension. A hold suspension in this context allows users to keep their place in line on a desired title with a wait list until they are ready to read it. For example, if a patron is interested in reading a series such as Sarah J. Maas' ACOTAR then they could place a hold on A Court of Thorns and Roses for immediate delivery, then place suspended holds for the subsequent titles. Suspending a hold in this case gives the patron time to read the first book in the series while keeping their place in line for the later titles.
Users now no longer have to select an end date for hold suspensions and can instead manually unsuspend a hold when they are ready to start reading. Patrons with existing holds will see a notification about this change on their Holds screen. If you do not have any current holds, don't worry! You will see the updated feature if you choose to suspend a hold in the future. Patrons who use the OverDrive website will not see a notification, but they will still have the same updated experience regarding suspended holds.
The Libby app has also updated the term "Deliver Later" to "Suspend" so now if you would like to delay your holds you will "suspend" it. You can suspend your holds before or after it's delivered, but patrons should note that holds will be cancelled if they are suspended 365 days in a row. Additionally, if you miss your hold on its first delivery, it's okay! You haven't been taken off of the list, but the hold will remain suspended until you manually unsuspend it.
