This year marks a remarkable milestone — the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth — and the Milton Library is delighted to commemorate this occasion with a very special event! Join us on Monday, November 10 at 6:00 PM as members of the Jane Austen Society of North America present an engaging program titled Jane Austen and You.
On this historic anniversary, we pause to reflect on just how extraordinary Jane Austen truly is. Many authors are respected and admired, but few inspire the personal affection that Austen’s readers feel. What is it about her novels, her characters, and her voice that continue to captivate readers around the world more than two centuries later?
Our featured speaker, John King, an Atlanta native and devoted “Janeite” for more than 35 years, and Renata Dennis will explore the world that shaped Austen’s genius — from Regency England to her remarkable family.
Attendees will hear how other famous authors have viewed her work, and will be invited to consider the enduring value of her literary legacy for both today’s readers and future generations.
Whether you’re a lifelong Austen enthusiast or someone who has yet to open Pride and Prejudice, this program promises a lively and illuminating evening. Come celebrate one of literature’s most beloved voices and discover what makes Jane Austen as relevant — and as adored — as ever.
