New STEM Programs at Ponce!

This March, the Ponce Branch is introducing new STEM programs for preschool, elementary, and middle school-age kids!

Wednesday, March 18 @ 4:00pm: Our next STEM activity will cover all things lunar! Participants will learn about the phases of the Moon and use their new knowledge to assemble a Moon Phases Calendar and Calculator. With this hands‑on tool, they’ll be able to look up the Moon’s phase for any day of the year and even predict when and where the Moon will be visible. This activity blends science, creativity, and curiosity as young astronomers explore how the Moon changes over time!

Tuesday, March 24 @ 4:00pm: Later this month, we will become rocket scientists for the day! Participants will explore the engineering design process by creating and launching their own soda straw rockets. Using a simple template, they’ll build a basic rocket that can be launched from a straw, then experiment with modifying the design. By changing one variable at a time, they’ll see how each adjustment affects the rocket’s performance. This hands‑on activity encourages curiosity, problem‑solving, and creative engineering!

Join us this month for these fun and engaging STEM activities and check out the event calendar for more to come!
