September is Sourdough September! As the weather gets cooler, it’s the perfect time to bake delicious and versatile sourdough bread.
Sourdough has ancient roots in many cultures but likely originated five to six thousand years ago in Egypt. Since then, it has spread across the world to become a common fixture worldwide. Sourdough is different from other types of bread because it is made using a starter. The starter is typically a mixture of flour and water that is allowed to ferment over time. The fermentation process results in the natural yeast producing carbon dioxide, which helps the dough rise, and the bacteria produces lactic acid, which lends the dough its distinctly sour taste.
While bread-baking may seem intimidating, it is easy when you have access to the library. See below for books that will help you bake the perfect loaf this fall!
