Unearthing RoboKong: June Recap

The end of June officially marks the halfway point for RoboKong at Central Library. RoboKong is an electric vehicle engineering camp hosted by Kid Kong where teens between ages 13 and 17 design, build, and race a remote-controlled (RC) electric vehicle. Classes are in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center every Thursday at 11:00 AM through July 23 to build and will race the cars during the Summer Reading Finale on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. At this time, this camp is full and registration is closed.

Participants in this camp team up to design and build RC electric race cars from state-of-the-art kits (provided by Kid Kong) that include everything needed for completion. Each week, the teams construct a new part according to the instruction manual and with guidance from Kid Kong. In the first class, everyone met Kid Kong and their teammate. Kid Kong gave everyone an overview of the camp and showcased two fully-built RC cars. For the remainder of class one, the teams let their creativity flow by choosing team names and numbers and designing the body of their car and logos. Kid Kong will have their logos and designs painted onto the body of their RC car.

In the second class, Kid Kong brought out the RC car kits and taught everyone the car parts, tools, best practices and more through an interactive video and mini quiz. After the quiz, the teams labeled and opened their kits and began building the first parts according to the instruction manual. In class three, Kid Kong brought in additional hands to assist the teams in finishing where they ended or moving onto the next step.
