Winter Solstice December 21, 2025

The winter solstice in the northern hemisphere of the Earth is December 21, 2025.  It is the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year for the northern hemisphere.

In astronomy, the winter solstice is the beginning of the winter season.  Then the winter ends and the spring begins at the vernal or spring equinox on March 20, 2026.

The opposite is true for the southern hemisphere of the Earth, where December 21st is the summer solstice and thus the longest day of the year and the shortest night of the year.

As well, for the southern hemisphere, December 21st is the beginning of the summer season in astronomy and will end at the autumnal equinox on March 20, 2026, which introduces the autumn or fall season.
