World Tai Chi and Qigong Day – April 25, 2026

This celebration started in 1999 and it happens on the last Saturday of April.  80 countries celebrate World Tai Chi and Qigong Day.

Researchers have found that tai chi reduces anxiety and stress.  They also found that it helps one to have better balance and to improve brain health.  Studies also show that tai chi is good for stronger lungs, healthier joint function and relief from fibromyalgia.

In general, it is safe for someone of any age to practice tai chi, but talk with your health care provider before starting a new exercise if you have a health situation.

If you have 10 minutes per day, then you can do qigong.

Qigong is a 4,000 year old practice of traditional Chinese medicine.  Qi (chi) is energetic life force that flows through our bodies.  Qigong helps to reduce the stagnation of that energy and allows the body to heal itself.  Qigong means "to work with qi."

Tai chi is the most popular variant of qigong in the western world.

Qigong can help with arthritis, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, COPD and Parkinson's disease.

Qigong may also help with sleep, fall prevention, and brain function.
