April is National Poetry Month. The Buckhead Library is joining in on the celebration by launching the 1st Annual Robert M. Slater Poetry Contest. The contest is designed to inspire young writers and invites children in grades K–8 to explore the power of words and express themselves through poetry.
Participants can submit entries in two categories: (1) rhyming poetry and (2) free verse, giving every applicant the opportunity to write in a style that feels natural and exciting to them. Whether it’s a playful rhyme or a heartfelt free-form poem, each submission will showcase the unique voice and creativity of its young author. To celebrate their efforts, the contest will award first, second, and third place prizes in both categories. It’s a wonderful chance for students to gain recognition for their work while building confidence in their writing skills.
Prizes for Both Categories
- 1st place: $25
- 2nd place: $15
- 3rd place: $5
*All participants will receive a coupon for a Chick-Fil-A item courtesy of our friends at the Piedmont Road Chick-Fil-A
