Book Kits to Banish Winter Break Boredom

Today marks the beginning of the December Break for kids and teens across the Fulton County area. But while these students enjoy this chance to relax at home with no academic obligations, parents and caregivers still have plenty of responsibilities on their plates. You might be able to squeeze in a couple of outings in between visits to family and friends, holiday celebrations, and preparing for a new year, but it is unavoidable that at some point your child will be bored and stuck at home. What can you do?

Come to Dogwood Library and borrow one of our Winter Break Book Kits!

Each bag comes with a selection of crafts, activities, and 2 to 3 titles with similar themes and reading levels. Maybe your child can try out a series featuring kids who go on adventures through time, or see themselves in stories about making friends at school. Everything from picture books to graphic novels, fiction and non-fiction alike, can be found in one of our kits. And if you don't see one that quite fits what your kid is looking for, let them browse the shelves and pick their own books for their kit or ask our Youth Services Librarian, Mrs. Stannard, to help you build one! Reading together is important for youth literacy, so be sure to settle down with a book of your own when you have a moment to spare. Even taking turns reading from the same book can boost a child's confidence by leaps and bounds, helping to develop their skills while creating wonderful memories together. In addition, the included crafts and activities are a combination of education and fun that can entertain all ages, letting them express their creativity and try new things. Plus, if the student fills out the mini reading log, they can turn it in at the Dogwood branch for a special prize!

Winter Book Kits can be picked up anytime during our normal operating hours from now until January 6, 2026 (except on days where the library is closed). The Reading Logs can be turned in until January 31, 2026. Happy Reading!
