Celebrating Memorial Day

Every year since 1868, Memorial Day has been observed as a day to remember and honor our fallen heroes who served in the Armed Forces. Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May. This day was known as Decoration Day at first and was proclaimed by Commander-in-Chief John Logan as a way to remember all the lives lost in the Civil War. It was called Decoration Day because this was a time that people used to decorate the graves of those who died with flowers. What started out as day to celebrate those who lost their lives in the Civil War is now meant to honor all who laid down their lives while in service.

Please feel free to check out the list below for books about various war veterans and their heroic acts in remembrance of this special day.
