CreativX Lab with We Create Tech: Digital Clocks

For this workshop the teens would learn how to use smoldering iron pens to make a digital clock. With a video to guide them and the instructors ready to jump in to help, the teens were well prepared for the task ahead. However, it wouldn’t be as easy as last time. Encouraged to follow step by step because if they mess up, they wouldn’t be able to start over. Working with soldering irons means every decision they make is a permanent one, so the teens had to be careful to get everything right on the first try.

For safety, the participants had to wear glasses to protect their eyes from the smoke. Along with the tutorial video, the teens also had to volunteers demonstrate in-person how the soldering iron pens works. Once ready the teens divide into teams of two. Unfortunately, no one finished during the session, but everyone was free to take their clock home to continue working on it. Despite the unfinished projects, everyone walked away satisfied with their work and ready for the next project with CreativX Lab.

From building a Bluetooth speaker to now constructing their own clock, the teens are learning the basics for engineering at a fast rate.
