The Coretta Scott King Book Awards Round Table, in partnership with the Auburn Avenue Research Library, is excited to present an in-person and virtual program, Researching African American Stories for Children and Teens.

How do illustrators transform research, memory, and lived experience into meaningful stories for young readers?

Join acclaimed illustrators R. Gregory Christie, and Laura Freeman in conversation with Dr. Roberta Gardner as they explore the research and creative process behind telling African American stories for children and teens.

The conversation will examine historical accuracy, creative freedom, lived experience, and the thoughtful work that goes into creating authentic and meaningful Black stories for young readers.
