Did you know that Georgia has a library just for the blind and print disabled? Did you know it shares space with our Central Library? Most people are unaware of either. But both statements are true. The Georgia Library Service (GLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled is a free braille and talking book library service for individuals who are blind or whose physical abilities require the use of books and magazines in audio, braille or other adapted formats. GLS serves the entire state of Georgia in addition to providing books and magazines in adapted formats also have technology programs, summer reading programs, book clubs, peer-support groups, and poetry slams.
Visit the GLS Atlanta Library located inside the Fulton County Library Central Branch for in-person library services. Patrons have access to computers and assistive technology such as screen readers, magnification equipment, and one-on-one training. We also host many of our in-person programs at this location. GLS Atlanta Library is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
GLS can also be reached at 1-800-248-6701 and patrons can also apply for assistance at https://gls.georgialibraries.org/applications/
If you have a friend or family member who is blind or has low vision, this is an excellent resource for them to be able to enjoy reading material.
