What would it be like to have your meals rain down from the sky three times a day? In the tiny town of Chewandswallow meals are served from the sky throughout the day. It rains soup or juice. It snows mashed potatoes and fried eggs. Sometimes a beautiful jello dessert appears on the horizon in the evening. People travel with silverware and dishes, so they will be ready to eat at any time. Life is delicious until the weather turns more severe. Larger potions start coming down, and they are more destructive. Noodles snarl traffic and a giant pancake envelops the school. The townspeople must do something before it’s too late. They decide to leave the town. They sail away on rafts of giant peanut butter and jelly sandwiches leaving Chewandswallow and its bizarre weather behind.

This unique story will spark the imaginations of kids. My son is fascinated with the idea of meals coming from the sky. He loves the storm of hamburgers and the giant pancakes. As an adult, I think of all the practical problems food weather would cause. What if you overslept and missed breakfast? What if you were allergic to a lunch entrée, or didn’t like the meal “served” for dinner? This story is fun and imaginative, and I’m grateful that it will never happen in real life.
