Picture Book Review: Gnome by Fred Blunt

Looking for your next read? Check out Gnome by Fred Blunt, reviewed by Fulco Library staff, Kate L.

Have you ever wondered where garden gnomes come from? This hilarious picture book tells the story of a very rude gnome whose favorite word is no.

One day he goes fishing at a witch’s pond and ends up in big trouble because of his lack of manners. He’s rude to the reader, he’s rude to a sweet hedgehog who needs help getting an apple off his spines. He’s even rude to the witch, who asked him to fish someplace else as he’s scaring her toads and we all know how fond witches are of their toads.

Now it is one thing to be rude to a hedgehog and it’s a whole other matter being rude to a witch equipped to do magic and spells. With a funny twist we find out what happens to gnomes who say no to her. Can you guess?

The simple yet funny dialogue of this book is sure to make you chuckle and remind you of the importance of manners, no matter who you are, even a gnome.
