October was Giving Month at Best Buy and that initiative reached our teens at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center. The teens brainstormed how they could give back to our community and came up with the Technology for Good Service Project, a clothing drive for people impacted by homelessness. 20 of our teens pitched and sold their idea to Best Buy general managers, Social Impact representatives, and employees from the headquarters. After selling the idea, donation boxes were stationed in staff areas at the Best Buy retail locations where some of our teens previously interned in the summer, as well in staff areas at the headquarters. Donations were collected for several weeks and mailed to the Best Buy Teen Tech Center. And then, donation day arrived at the end of October. There were a total of 10 full boxes and bags of donated winter clothing and essentials! Our partner and Best Buy general manager Ed Poole informed us that there are even more donations that didn’t meet the deadline, so we may be revisiting or revamping the Technology for Good Service Project in 2026. Our teens, staff, Central Library administrator, and partners from Best Buy packed several cars and donated all items to a local Salvation Army. Teens were interviewed on site and later created a podcast on the subject to speak about their involvement in this project and the importance of giving back. See some of the photos throughout the process below.
