Pickett's artist statement:
"I am a figurative painter who works primarily from the life. My work celebrates the beauty, form, and colors of all women. This exhibit explores the spectrum of their beauty as well as that of some of the men who inhabit their world. This presentation examines how chroma, composition, and gesture shape mood and communicate a sense of recognition and familiarity. I am especially focused on how hue, movement, and facial expression come together to create the presence associated with an image. My inspiration comes from working with live models and responding to the moods created by their poses. It also comes from observing how a color palette and emotion interact in everyday life to stimulate our reactions. I look for subtle moments, the quiet strength, vulnerability, and confidence we specifically associate with femininity. For me, studying the human form is an endless source of mystery and beauty. Painting the figure feels like solving a puzzle with infinite possibilities. Through my work, I aim to go beyond surface appearance and create images that stir the mind and settle in the heart."
