2025 marks the second year of our Annual Project Showcase, where staff present and celebrate the teens and the Tech Center’s accomplishments throughout the year. In 2024, we rolled out the runway in a fashion-focused showcase, and our teens did not disappoint with their original fashion designs! Teens walked the runway in their original t-shirts, hoodies, and hats, as well as their hand-sewn clothing pieces. In 2025, we reinvented the Showcase and presented a variety of our youths’ projects including fashion design; photography and videography; 3D printing; and coding, robotics, and AI. We also introduced two new categories: Podcasting and Service Projects. The installation of our Podcasting room in late Spring bore a new outlet for our teens to develop their voice, public speaking skills, and confidence. Since the kick-off of the Central Library Summer Reading program, our teens have recorded over 10 podcast episodes featuring authors, entrepreneurs, corporate leadership representatives, and more. Guests, teens, and our partners witnessed various short films, AI renderings, stop motion films, podcasts, hand-sewn bags and shirts, and more.
T
he Annual Project Showcase is also where the Teen Tech of the Year award is presented. Each year, our coordinator selects one teen who set the standard for others through project completion, attendance, individuality, and dedication to elevating their self and the culture of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center. The teen who is selected is presented with a prize from our partners and has their photo along with their completed projects displayed near the entrance of the Teen Center. This year, rising high school senior and robotics team captain Caden Calvin was presented with this award in recognition of the time, labor, and dedication toward his cosplay project. Caden used foam, heat guns, glue, Blender 3D modeling software, and the 3D printer to create his knight cosplay, which he wore to Dragon Con in the summer. All materials and equipment were provided to him free of charge by the Best Buy Teen Tech Center, and anything we did not have in stock was ordered to support his amazing project.
See photos from the showcase and from Caden’s work process below.
