Year of the Book theme for April 2026 is “Words that Move Us.” April is National Poetry Month. Poetry is words in a pattern that move the listener because of the deliverer’s intonation.
Two poets have words that have been quoted and credited to them so often, if they were to say the words were not theirs, the world would have a hard time accepting this as truth: Elizabeth Barrett Browning's How do I Love thee, let me count the ways" and Shakespeare's "To be or not to be, that is the question," from Hamlet.
Poetry with music has played a special part in inspiring the populace. Gil Scott Heron's, "The Revolution will not be Televised" in an example of this style.
During Arab American Heritage Month, which is also celebrated in April, take a look at Arabic Verse, Love Poetry, and Wine Songs. d to see words in all languages have the power to move people.
There are many types of Poetry including Slam Poetry and Sports Poetry. Several other styles of poetry can be heard on National Poetry Month playlist in Freegal.
During this month that celebrate words in poems, letters and heritage "The Poetry Lounge" is a place to visit for inspiration. Who knows, your writings may become a great legacy like Osceola Mays: Stories, Songs & Poems. Always remember, words are powerful.
