
Artist Biography/Statement
Gene Dominique earned a photojournalism degree at San Jose State University and law degree from University of California at San Francisco. After practicing law for thirty years, ten years ago Gene returned to his passion: a full-time photography art practice. Gene's explorations include a variety of genres from documentary to portraiture, surrealism and alternative photographic implementations. Gene has an active studio practice. He has a particular interest in an on-going series of studio portraits where Gene invites professional models and individuals with interesting spirits and faces to and have their portraits made.
Working in three dimensions is another of Gene's interests. He creates sculptural works, both for both still-life subjects, and as finished works in their own right. The series Hardware Drama is an example of his multidisciplinary creative approach where he used scrapyard nuts and bolts to create a city skylines and human-like portraits.
Examples of Gene's new and archival works abound in his bright, sunlit studio include photographs,
large and small, on paper and in gold; along with props, tools, supplies, and a variety of inspirational objects are meticulously arranged around the space. The studio includes a comfortable reading, relaxing area highlighted by a vintage 9' church pew that is a nod to the Black American Church. Gene's art studio is at the Goat Farm in Hapeville, GA. He lives in Atlanta, Ga.
Gene Dominique's exhibition will be on display in the 1st floor studio B from May 27 through September 8, 2026.
