CreativX Lab with We Create Tech: Training AI

To start the Year of the Book, the Best Buy Teen Tech Center kick off the year with a new program called CreativX Lab with We Create Tech. A weekly workshop on Tuesdays from 4pm to 6pm focusing on all thing’s technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), engineering, and web design. The goal is for teenagers to improve their digital media skills and give them career opportunities in the tech world. Hosted as always by Shana Sanders, the founder of We Create Tech.

For their first session, the participants focus on AI specifically, how AI learns and how to teach it. As smart as AI is, it is only as smart as the person training it. If a person does not know something, then the machine learning from them will not know either. As an example, Shana used the actors Jaleel White and Malcolm-Jamal Warner. In 2025, Warner died of an accidental drowning, unfortunately White’s photo was used by multiple media outlets as they were mistaken as the same person. Whoever made that mistake did not take the time to differentiate the actors apart. This problem is like what AI is having; blindly stating facts without any knowledge to back them up.

After the teens created their accounts for CreativX, they were free to start training AI. The participants used teachablemachine.com and Huggingface.co as tools to make their voice be a part of the AI community. By participating in this program, the teens are ensuring their experiences and culture are not blindly misrepresented.

In the end, all the teens walk away learning more about AI and how they can be a part of it. We can’t wait to see what the teens do next week at CreativX Lab.
