The day set aside to nationally honor Atlantan Martin Luther King Jr. annually falls on the third Monday in January to coincide with his birthday (January 15th). The Digital Library at FCLS has a wealth of online resources to help celebrate and honor his legacy as a civil rights activist, icon, and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Some of our many options for downloadable content for the holiday include:
-
- Works of biography, autobiography, and history on all our eBook platforms. Find highlighted selections in the African American History & Literature collection on Overdrive and the Libby app.
-
- Materials for lesson plans, reports, and essays on our Infobase platforms, including the African American History portal. This handy list of Always Available Children's Martin Luther King Day Downloads highlights some of the best materials for classrooms ready for use with no wait.
-
- For advanced researchers looking for more, the Oxford African American Studies Center is now available at all library locations and your home! Don't forget that the Auburn Avenue Research Library (AARL) is part of the same system as the regular lending libraries, and open to visit whenever you're downtown. Be sure to check the AARL home page before your trip to make sure it's open to the public when you plan to visit.
-
- Access Video, and Access Video on Demand (AVOD) for Kids, and Kanopy all offer amazing recent documentaries as well as historical content! Note that Access Video and AVOD for Kids fully integrate with Google classroom, often have lesson plans for download, and contain loads of historical footage from right here in Georgia. Kanopy offers more popular content, but each of these video platforms include clipping and citation tools for those wishing to incorporate quotes into essays, lesson plans, or presentations.

Looking for recent PBS history content for adults? Try Kanopy for ten checkouts of streaming content per month.
