Girl Scouts Technology Day

Every year, the Best Buy Teen Tech Center (BBTTC) hosts a Technology Day for Girl Scouts to earn their Technology badge.

For the junior Girl Scout troop, it was a day of engineering and artificial intelligence (AI). The troop created an LED robot flashlight where they learn about electricity by creating a circuit. With some tinkering and trial and error, the girls learn how to build a flashlight. Then, the girls decorated their robots to express their personality. Once finished, they began their next task: learning how to use an AI generator. All of them were tasked to use Copilot, Microsoft’s AI generator, to design their own restaurant, including exterior design, menu, and prices. This assignment gave the girls insight into how artificial intelligence operates and the importance of being specific in writing.

For the teen Girl Scout troop, they learn about virtual reality. With the Meta VR headsets, each teen explored virtual worlds and tested their drawing skills using the Open Brush app. A challenging task, as not everyone has artistic skills, but with VR, their possibilities extend beyond their capabilities.

With all their tasks completed, both troops assessed what they learn, and how they will apply this technology to their everyday lives. In the end, all the girls walk away with a Technology badge and a fun learning experience at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center.
