South Atlanta High School Technology Day

A class from South Atlanta High School visited the Best Buy Teen Tech Center for a Technology Day. For many of the teens, it was their first time stepping into a space designed entirely for exploration and creativity.

To start the field trip, the class would focus on robotics by completing two projects: creating an LED robot flashlight and programming a path for Ozobots. Ozobots are small robots programmed to recognize four colors: red, blue, green, and black. These colors, arranged in a specific order, allow the robots to perform actions. For example, red, black, and red in this order makes the Ozobots increase their speed. The students using markers created a track for the small robots to race on.

For the LED robot flashlight, a project the BBTTC has repeated before and achieved success with among the teens. While the project can be a struggle for most, with team effort, everyone was able to find success by helping one another. For the most part, everyone was able to get their robots flashing.

For the latter half of their time, each teen explored the BBTTC more by seeing what else the center offers. Some teens took turns playing games on the Meta VR headset, drawing on the Wacom tablets, or making their own buttons. By the end, every student left happy about their time at the BBTTC and ready to see what the next step would be for them.
