Artist Statement
"I have been an assignment photographer for over 25 years. On those journeys and travels, I always shoot a 'fine art' or 'street-photography' series. I'm so honored to share my work in my first exhibition at Central Library.
To put my images in perspective, I graduated with a degree in fine arts. My first professional job out of college was working with the Department of Family and Children Services. During that time, I also worked as a security guard for Lockheed Martin, where I became a Child Protective Services investigator. Moving away from the arts, I started photographing as a side hustle, but I needed to become my true self and be more creative. I made the hard decision to leave the safety of a State and Federal job to attempt to become an artist. I felt that photojournalism would be a good pathway in that direction and might help me become an artist who can sell their work. So I became a top photojournalist photographing International and national news stories all around the world.
I am still attempting to be a more complete artist than what I am already doing. That means slowing down to make more art, print my photographs, mentor young artists, teach photography and try to sell my artwork- which I think is the goal. I wonder if my photographs have any value. I wonder if my paintings will ever sell for over $1,000 apiece. My images are published worldwide. My paintings hang on the wall of former Governors of the State of Georgia. I would like to make a busines out of 'OQUENDOFINEART'
This set is a collection of images titled Rachel, Nevada."
