August 31st is We Love Memoirs Day, but you can check out a variety of memoirs from the library all month long.
We Love Memoirs Day was started in 2013 by two authors, Victoria Twead and Alan Parks. Since then, it has become a yearly observance celebrating both the reading and writing of memoirs.
This popular non-fiction genre is characterized by its focus on an important time period or events in the author’s life. It is not the same as an autobiography because autobiographies typically cover the author’s entire life. A memoir could be published at any age about any significant events whereas an autobiography might typically be released towards the end of the author’s life or career.
