GENEALOGY

The Special Collections Department is home to an outstanding Genealogy collection. The focus of the collection is Georgia and the southern states as well as other states that served as key migration centers. The collection contains print, microforms and electronic resources. Collection strengths include; county histories, family histories, passenger lists, cemetery records, records of births, marriages and deaths, immigration records, military records, census records, Native American records, compiled newspaper clippings, as well as resources on heraldry and peerages. The collection is arranged by county for browsing by genealogists and researchers. The electronic resources include the genealogy databases: Ancestry Library Edition, HeritageQuest, and Fold3 as well as America’s Obituaries and Death Notices, Georgia Newspapers and Historical Black Newspapers. The City Directory Collection often acts as an extension to the Genealogy Collection for those who had relatives who lived or worked or stayed in Atlanta.

A selection of the Genealogy Collection is available for browsing in the Special Collections reading room.  To learn more about the collection email us at Library.SpecColl@fultoncountyga.gov
